"Great songs in the key of life"!!

The law of averages determines that very few of us will, in reality, reach 'super star' status. And even fewer will be fortunate enough to sustain a decent income from being a recording artist. That said it is important to recognise that there are a number of alternative career options from session work to cabaret singer. But by far one of the most lucrative career paths is that of a songwriter.

Just one commercially successful hit record
can have a very positive impact on your lifestyle! Add to that the satisfaction of knowing that one of your songs could potentially launch a career, and the benefits are clear to see!

Examples of successful great songwriters include Rod Temperton who penned classics like "Lady In My Life" (Michael Jackson) & "Putting A Move On My Heart" (Tamia). And as well as writing numerous hits for himself 'Prince' (or TAFKAP) has written hits like "Waterfalls" (T.L.C.) & "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Sinead O'Connnor). Other prolific writers includeR. Kelly (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson), Diane Warren (numerous), Jam & Lewis (Janet Jackson, Change) & L.A. & Babyface (T.L.C. Whitney Houston). Each writer mentioned has developed their own brand of 'individual' hit making formula's, by observing a set of songwriting rules updated with their own unique view of music.

"A great singer has no vehicle to display their 'gift' and is unlikely to have much of a career without great songs, underlining the importance of developing good songwriting skills"!

"However, through the years there have been some prolific & gifted singer-songwriters "!!

Singer songwriters are the extremely gifted souls who combine a great vocal talent with an equally great songwriting ability. These 'elite' entertainers usually surpass themselves in career longevity and tend to be the type of artist that (once they have captured your imagination), retain a special 'lifelong' licence to provide 'music for your soul'. Great singer-songwriters like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Lennon & McCartney, Prince and R. Kelly have become musical icons and been afforded lustrous careers spanning generations of music lovers.

If you have aspirations of providing songs for the stars of the future or joining the group of elite singer-songwriters that provide 'music for the soul' you need to know what is involved in hit songwriting. The songwriters course is a short but comprehensive program designed to introduce the aspiring songwriter to the many different aspects of songwriting & arrangement, and assist the writer in developing the techniques associated with successful songwriting.

The course will be administered as 4 modules that separately investigate the intricate elements that form the parts of a complete song and the development of a song writing career.

These include:Song structure & development, Melodic structure, Song concept, Lyrical & melodic ‘hooks’, Music arrangement, Vocal arrangement, Instrumentation, Production, Musical direction, Ownership & legal issues, Copyright, Publishing and the ‘Song Project’.

This course will conclude with the ‘Song Project' where studio demo recordings of the songs written by course participants are used to chart development.
